The Three Peaks - 24 Hour Challenge - We Did It!

I've decided to take on the Three Peaks Challenge and chosen to raise money for Kenward Trust. I'm hoping to raise £1000 to help support their crucial work, and I'm asking for your help, whether big or small, to reach my goal. I have funded the trip and expenses myself and 100% of your donation will go to Kenward Trust, on top of that my wedding photography business, Luke Granger Photography www.lukegranger.co.uk, will also donate an additional £100 for every couple that books their wedding photography or video with us between now and the 19th of May 2023.

By donating to this fundraiser, you'll be supporting a charity that is making a real difference in the lives of people who are struggling with addiction and homelessness. You'll be helping to provide them with the support and resources they need to turn their lives around and build a brighter future for themselves. I know that the world is a difficult place right now but even a few pounds will go a long way. I'm so grateful for any support you can offer, and I hope that together we can make a real difference for Kenward Trust and the people they help. Thank you for considering a donation to my Three Peaks Challenge fundraiser.

You can find out more about Kenward Trust here: https://kenwardtrust.org.uk/ and if you’d like to support Kenward Trust directly you can do so through donations or by visiting Kenward Place here: https://kenwardplace.co.uk/ where you can book conference rooms, walk alpacas, play disk golf or try your hand at archery.

A group of us are taking on the 3 peaks in May with the goal of completing them in 24 hours. All testing our psychical and mental health in order to raise £10,000 in total for Kenward Trust. For those who may not know, the National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales all within 24 hours. It's a tough physical and mental challenge, but one that I'm excited to take on to help raise money for a cause that is very dear to me: Kenward Trust.

We're climbing 3 peaks in 24 hours, Ben Nevis (Scotland) - (1344 m), Scafell Pike (England) - (978 m) & Snowdon (Wales) - (1085 m).

My business has been a supporter of Kenward Trust for the last few years, I first found out about Kenward Trust through a local networking event and felt the work they are so passionate about improves the lives of so many people, and I knew that I wanted to support their efforts.

So Whats The Plan?

Below I've listed the itinerary for the weekend.

The goal is to mark the time at the start of the Ben Nevis climb and finish at the top of Snowden in under 24 hours time!

19th May

I'll be flying from Gatwick to Glasgow and meeting up with the rest of the team ahead of our minibus journey up to Fort William. Then it's a bite to eat and an early night ahead of the first peak the next morning.

Challenge Day 1 - 20th May

Scotland – Ben Nevis (1,344m) – 15kms

The first peak, Ben Nevis, is the highest mountain in the UK, standing at 1,344m. We expect to see spectacular views trekking during an early morning sunrise, a stunning way to start the challenge, hopefully. I've been to Fort William and Glencoe a handful of times and it's always rained nonstop! The trek begins on the main path from Glen Nevis. The path was originally built to service a meteorological observatory of which the remains still stand at the summit. The walk to the summit takes approximately 3 hours and involves 1,370m of ascent. On summiting we'll (hopefully) enjoy the breath-taking views of the Scottish Highlands.

The walk back down should take approximately 2 – 2.5 hours. Once we're at the bottom of Ben Nevis, we'll join up with our minibus transport and drive through the evening towards the Lake District, Cumbria which should take approximately 5.5 – 6 hours.

England – Scafell Pike (978m) – 11kms

The second summit of National 3 Peaks challenge, Scafell Pike, is the highest mountain in England standing at 978m. The ascent begins just after sunset from Wasdale Head, a tranquil part of the Lake District, also known as the birth place of British climbing. The challenge here is trekking by the light of head torches as the night skies set in. Once on the summit of England’s highest mountain we'll claim the second peak of the 3 peaks challenge. The ascent and descent of Scafell Pike should take approximately 4.5 hours.

Once back at the minibus it is time to relax and hopefully get a couple of hours sleep as we drive to Snowdonia passing through some of the most stunning scenery in the UK. The journey from from Wasdale Head to Llanberis, Snowdonia should take approximately 4.5 – 5 hours.

Challenge Day 2 - 21st May

Wales – Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa (1,085m) – 14km

The final summit takes on the highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon or Yr Wyddfa in Welsh, standing at 1,085m. Snowdonia is unique for its bio-diversity of plants and wildlife and with breath taking views from the summit is a great end to the last of the three peaks.

The ascent route will be via the Pyg track where we'll see those classic Snowdon views. The early morning ascent should take approximately 2.5 – 3 hours. Once on the summit we'll celebrate with a team photo and enjoy the views before starting the decent down the Llanberis Path.

If all goes to plan we should complete all 3 peaks in under 24 hours, an amazing achievement for the whole team.

My Previous Experience

Landscape photography is one of my passions, its taken me all over the UK and I've climbed a fair few big hills and mountains for a photo opportunity. None of them quite as big as the challenge I'll be taking on in May however! Here's a few of my photos taken around the UK.
